ILOILO CITY, Oct. 23 (PIA) -- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office (MGB) 6 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has distributed educational materials consisting mainly of posters to a number of schools in the city and province of Iloilo.

One poster being distributed by MGB-6 shows the different minerals that can be found in the region. It also illustrates how important minerals are in our daily living as most of the things we use cannot be produced without minerals.

Examples are roads, buildings, concrete houses, utensils, cars, computers, and almost anything people utilize in the modern world which use minerals.

Some metallic minerals that we can find in Region 6 are gold, copper, manganese, chromite, and iron. Meanwhile, Region 6 is also a source of marble, silica, sandstone, kaolinite or white clay, ball clay, limestone (dimension stone), red-burning clay, guano, phosphate rock, semi-precious gemstones, and sand and gravel (aggregate materials).

Another poster on the national geologic hazard mapping of the MGB shows the importance of mapping the landslide and flood-prone areas in the country. It also shows how to interpret the geohazard maps to guide decision-makers and implementers in planning and preparing for eventualities arising from these natural hazards in order to reduce risk and manage their impacts.

The posters are also available in digital form which schools can use for their online classes. (MGB-6/LAA/JBG/JSC/PIA6)
